TPOS - Week 1 - Assignment
Creating Presence - Immersion
Presence/Immersion (or whatever you want to call it!), stems from the user's imagination. Use the Ricoh Theta, projection, or any other low-tech techniques (sound, fans, voice etc) to do a small experiment *on someone else* which creates a sense of presence, immersion, or both for that person.
Focus on what Richard Skarbez (from the Voices of VR Podcast) calls "The Place Illusion." You do not need to use a headset (though you can).
Document this experiment on the class blog with a video or pictures along with a paragraph about what produced the feeling of presence and/or immersion-- be ready to share it and (if possible) reproduce the experiment in class.
Creating Presence - Immersion - Sky Diving
We were very inspired by the rollercoaster interaction you showed us at the end of the class last week. We wanted to create something of similar experience implementing low tech techniques as well as focusing on "The Place illusion" from the podcast.
We wanted the user to experience <------> Plugin the technique
- the feeling of the wind <------> fan + cardboard
- hear/sound of the wind <------> wind sound
- see the ground/scenery/surrounding <-------> use projector to project youtube video on the ground
- feeling of free falling <------> we get Tiri (user) to lie on the table with wheels and I slide the table a little bit during the experience experiment.
- rain pushing on the user face <------> we asked a friend to splash a little bit of water on the user's face
- to get into character <------> we ask Tiri to wear Goggles

Behind the Scene
Example from class
I love this example you showed
Test #01
At the beginning we tried sitting down but we weren't happy with it.
Test #02
We tried to improve the experience by having the user lie down on the table. At the end we used the table with wheels.
My significant or Interesting Space is . . . .
. . . . Dreaming is the ultimate virtual reality of mankind. There are lots of things you can do in dreams where there are limitless possibilities. Human brains work in mysterious ways. Either good/bad dreams, we are fully immersed in the experience even though most of the times when we don’t fully remember all the details but only bits and pieces of the stories.
One time in my dream I was living in slow motion and I was able to explode things when I touched something. I think my brain is trying to tell or warn me something. Maybe I’ve been living my life too fast and should slow down and pay attention to details I keep missing. Or maybe I’ve been watching too many sci-fi series and overthink things too much and that I’m going a little crazy and that its time to stop. Who really knows. What comes down to is that I love dreaming!
